What
are some of the services the agency provides?
Our
certified counselors provide Free credit counseling and budgeting, debt
management plans, tools for keeping track of spending and continuous education.
Am
I required to establish a debt management plan with your agency?
No.
Our counselors explore all options available to clients to resolve debt
issues, Including working with creditors to reduce interest rates, lower
monthly payments and waive late and over limit fees. You may be able to
manage on your own after seeking counseling and the advantages and disadvantages
of any recommendation made, will be explained.
Will
I continue to receive monthly statements from my creditors if I join the
debt management plan?
If
your accounts are still with the original creditors, you will continue
to receive monthly statements from your creditors.
Am
I responsible for my accounts after enrolling in the plan?
Yes.
You should ensure that you continue to review your statements each month,
contact your creditor to verify that your payments have been made if they
do not reflect on your statement. You should also contact the agency with
any concerns.
What
are some of the benefits of enrolling in a debt management plan?
Past
due accounts may be brought current, interest rates may be reduced or
waived, late and over limit fees may also be waived.
How
can the agency get these benefits for clients?
Many
creditors are willing to renegotiate your original contracts if you seek
counseling and guidance while you are having financial problems. However,
you must follow your creditors’ guidelines to the agency and make payments
as stipulated in your new agreement with your creditors through the agency.
Will
my creditor still call me?
Your
creditors reserve the right to call if your account is delinquent.
What
happens if I stop making payments to A.C.C.I.?
If
you choose to cancel your arrangements with A.C.C.I., you must continue
to pay your creditors, if not, your creditor has the right to pursue normal
collection procedures. All fees and normal interest rate may then be reinstated
in both instances.
Can
I take over the payments prior to completing the program?
Yes
you may. However, Amalgamated is obligated to disclose to your creditors
that you are no longer enrolled in credit counseling/debt management and
your creditors determine if you still qualify for the new benefits.
Will
enrolling in your program affect my credit?
Your
creditors may note in your credit file that your accounts are in credit
counseling, which may affect your credit score or your ability to obtain
a loan.
Can
I continue to use my credit line or credit cards after I enroll in your
programs?
No.
Once you have enrolled in the debt management program, your creditors
normally will close your accounts, preventing further usage.
